I go by Tara or Gregora while online and I got into roleplaying through my first game of DnD when I was about 15 or 16, but I really didn't get into it until my friends got me into freeform games where we'd pass a notebook between us during classes and lunch. Pretty much any chance we got in High School. When I turned 18, I got back into DnD after the disastrous first game I had and I had fun even though everyone around me was min-maxing and I was the only one who played characters who were fun to play. So my characters were constantly useless next to the rest of the party and none of them wanted to do anything but pillage and attack monsters. Think Knights of the Dinner Table or Dork Tower levels. Yeah.
I've gotten myself into a group with like-minded gamers who might min-max but they don't only focus on combat, but they also focus on playing things out. I'm comfortable with this and I don't mind as long as I don't get left behind. I've also started my own group this last May and we've gotten our main games all set up where everyone's enjoying things and the games are all very fun.
Besides gaming, I'm a bit of a Steampunk (which sometimes causes rifts between some friends and I) and I'm also a college student while putting together a bit of a band. I just got my very first electric guitar today and it fits in my hands a lot better than my acoustic. But yeah, that's it.

Welcome to the site Tara, hope you have awesome fun here and stick around for awhile my friends got me into freeform games where we'd pass a notebook between us during classes and lunch. Would you mind explaining this?? Seems fun and I may try it to pass time with it, so it would be appreciated, but don't feel obliged to it or anything.

I meant that as in one of my friends would come up with a general plot and character concepts and we'd pass a notebook, write down what our character does and says and pass it back and forth like that.
